Assistant Bar Manager

Zilker Brewing Co. believes the taproom is a key part of the brewery's success, as it is often someone's first experience with the brand. The taproom staff is responsible for making the taproom experience nothing short of exceptional. The Taproom Manager reports directly to the General Manager/Director of Operations. As a trusted member of the leadership team, the Taproom Manager is responsible for maintaining daily operations, growing, empowering, and supporting the taproom team, and always looking to improve operational efficiency. The Taproom Manager will also have the opportunity to work closely with the Events and Marketing teams to ensure that all guests have a memorable experience and are excited to visit again.
roles & responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day taproom operations
  • Creating and maintaining a pleasant taproom environment (temperature, music, cleanliness, conduct)
  • Ability to align with company policies and core values
  • In depth knowledge of daily operating systems (draught system, crowler machine, frozen drink machine, etc)
  • Work on the floor, being available to the staff and customers, building relationships with team members and customers to create an affinity for the brand 
  • Opening and closing of the taproom (setting up and closing out cash drawers, recording sales, assigning tips, ensuring opening/closing duties are completed)
  • Ensure beer quality is up to brand standards (cleaning and maintaining draft system, beer storage and off-flavor management) 
  • Assist GM in hiring, training, supervision, monitoring and motivating team members, participant in annual employee evaluations
  • Hold taproom team accountable to established job role expectations 
  • Monthly taproom staff schedules
  • Maintaining taproom inventory, including but not limited to glassware, merch, alternative beverages and other taproom supplies
  • Coordinate with production, sales and distribution to determine appropriate beer inventories 
  • Vendor relations 
  • Management of POS, weekly audits, adding available items and updating inventory limitations 
  • Assist with special event planning and programming 
  • Small scale events management: group reservations, tour group reservations
  • Private/special event lead - point of contact and operations manager during events
  • Send out weekly staff communication summaries via email/slack
  • Ensuring a safe and secure work environment - adherence to all TABC serving laws, conflict resolution with customers, vendors, etc as needed

Qualifications 

  • Passion for beer, hospitality and an amazing customer experience 
  • Knowledge of craft beer, including basic understanding of beer production (Cicerone Beer Server or other certifications preferred)
  • Knowledge of spirit based cocktails
  • 3+ years experience in a fast, paced bar environment
  • 1+ years experience in bar management 
  • Experience in craft beer preferred 
  • Over 21 with TABC certification 
  • Available to work 40 hours per week, nights and weekends
  • Strong working knowledge of POS systems (Toast), Google Work Space, Slack 
  • Ability to set clear goals, expectations, and provide support and direction for the team 
  • Strong planning, organizational and prioritization skills 
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task
  • Strong time management

  • Contributes to team meetings, and is active within teams communication structures
  • Communicates changes in process, expectations, personnel, equipment, etc. effectively and promptly with all necessary personnel.

Compensation
